Missing City Stars provides a unique opportunity for members of underrepresented communities and accomplished documentary makers to work side by side at no cost to the participants.
Focusing on minority groups in society, we give them a voice by helping them make their own documentaries. The idea is theirs.
Upon approaching members of a given community to solicit their interest, Missing City Stars provides experienced directors, editors, an production managers as well as the needed equipment. We then put on “master classes” -- workshops on documentary making -- showing participants how to use the equipment, develop a story, script a documentary and shoot it on schedule. After shooting, Missing City Stars edits the resulting footage, giving participants full control over content. Finally, we book a local venue where the new documentary makers present their creation to their community.
The documentaries are all made in different ways and told from a various point of view, with real insight and a new set of eyes. These are their stories. We just help them tell them.
