Missing City Stars was launched in Bellvitge, a farflung Barcelona neighborhood of apartment towers built in the 1950s to accomodate a huge influx of workers from other parts of Spain drawn here by the booming automobile industry. Subsequently the factories closed and people lost their jobs.
The barrio now faces many social and economic problems. Creative opportunities are scarce. The cinemas are now closed. We put on movie nights for the community’s teenagers, showing documentaries like “Estudiar en Primavera” Directed by Amparo Fortuny, in an attempt to ignite their creativity and interest in watching and ultimately making documentary films.
